Aguadulce

One of the biggest celebrations of the district of Aguadulce is without a doubt, its foundation festivities during the month of october when it is going to be 157 years old. The celebration draws thousands of visitors from different parts of the country and from abroad.

Its peculiar name originate during the conquering of the Americas. When the first spanish ships arrived to the mainland, they found an almost transparent turquoise lagoon they yelled, "Vamos a Agua Dulce", meaning that they would keep coming back for this beautiful place. The name has a relatioship with the existence of the "La Trinidad" hacienda, the only place where there was drinking water for the arriving sailors.

From 19-23 of October the festivities of the aniversary of Aguadulce will be celebrated with sport events, fairs, folkloric presentations, parades and presentations by local and national artists and mega stars along the Rodolfo Chiari avenue.

While touring the city, visitors can try local dishes, traditional foods from the region, like the delicous sancocho de gallina and pastelitos de maiz nuevo, that are sold at many portable food stores along the way.

The party keeps on going during the night with fireworks and more parades.

This picturesque region located on the south of Cocle is 190 kms from Panama city. To get there all you need to is drive on the Pan American Highway. The signs will tell you once you get there. It is about a 2 and half hour drive. If you by bus, the Albrook transportation terminal will have buses that will take you on an "express" trip to Aguadulce to enjoy this town and its people. There's nothing like the country side to go relax and enjoy a care free vacation. I once spent $22 dollars at a bar there while celebrating carnival, and that allowed me to even buy drinks for all of the people that were there. Enjoy your trip!
