What taxes, fees, duties and regulations apply in the following situation: I want to ship my vehicle from the U.S. to Panama for a three-month or six-month vacation. It will be shipping into Panama and shipped out of Panama. During the six-month stay, we probably will cross the border into Costa Rica for a period at some point. Thank you.

I highly recommend against this idea. Shipping your car to Panama and back to the U.S. will run you about $2000 or so. With that amount of money you could negotiate renting a car there.

If the car is to remain in Panama, introductory taxes will need to be paid before the car can be registered in Panama. A title will do for the bill of lading emitted by the transport company.
