I am a U.S. citizen planning a 10 week driving trip to Panama. We will enter via a border corossing from Costa Rica. Can I obtain a tourist card at the border that will be good for the 10 weeks? Or do I need to get a stamped visa from the consulate in Houston that will be good for the 10 weeks.
You will be able to get the tourist card at the border without any problems. Von voyage!

One more question. I have read that you need to show a return ticket for trip continuation when you receive your tourist card at the border. Since I will be driving I will not have a return ticket to present. Will this be a problem? Any suggestions?

Not at all. That will not be a problem. You will only be given a date in the future for when you will need to leave the country. That´s all.
